THE “MYSTERY TOWER” IN the photo on page A3 of the Sept. 1 edition belongs to the County Jail. I’m not sure what year it was built, but it was replaced by a new jail building directly north of the courthouse in 1912. The old jail sat just east and north of the courthouse on the west side of Washington St. The tower was on the southeast corner of the building, probably overlooking part of the “exercise yard”. The tower was 4 stories high, as indicated in the photo caption. The 2-story building to the left of the tower is the jail building itself. It and the tower were constructed of brick. The tower and jail building look more distant because of the camera perspective. The long, low building in front of the tower (right of the courthouse) was the F.W. Goodwin Livery (stable), which extended south all the way to Pine Avenue.

ALTHOUGH OPEN RECORDS LAWS do give an avenue to more information, much information is still withheld because of the cost to make such info available. Information is not free in many cases. So, the full story on many issues won’t be known.
STEVEN “GOOSE” MONCUS WAS one of my closes friends in the youth at Central Baptist. Loved and still do, so much!

DOUGHERTY COUNTY IS IN a sad state when teachers having tattoos becomes an issue, but our poor quality of education is not addressed! Let’s get rid of the bad teachers, not the tattooed teachers. Come on school board members, use your brains for more than something to fill up your skull! Where are our priorities? Last time I checked, tattoos did not keep you from being able to teach.

POOR OL’ BOBBY’S! LOVED that place and would love to go back some day. I had my birthday tequila there when I turned 19, which was the legal age way back in the olden days, and I spent the next 20 there, off and on. Cookouts, playing pool and jammin’ out to Tres Hombres, SilverEagle, and all the others. The one thing that hurt me when I got divorced was that I couldn’t go back there to rock out with SilverEagle! That last call/fourth set JAMMED!
THE P.O.B. HAS BEEN around forever and a day. Lots of fun, no bull crap, and the music and pool tables are awesome. CONGRATS for having such good clean fun.

LET ME RECAP THE weekend and let us keep in mind it is only Sunday. More gang violence in the good life city in which nobody except the residents seem to care about. Friday night these punks beat up and robbed an elderly man while he was walking his dog, they beat up the crap out of a young man, his tooth, including the root, is on my dining room table, gang task force, APD and the ambulance were called … to no avail. Then these punks have the audacity to try to intimidate the residents by walking up and down the sidewalk. None of us will say anything because we know they have guns, which they put to a little girl’s head on Friday. And to make matters worse, if they could get worse, the property manager wants us to document what is going on. Isn’t that what you are paid for? All we want is onsite security, but the powers that be don’t see a need. Call APD and get a record of all the calls for assistance. Let’s try this: put on plain clothes and walk around and see what is going on in the community in which we live. I hope Greg Edwards has a clean docket schedule, because people are going to start protecting their property as well as their families. I hope Sheriff Sproul has lots of room on Evelyn Drive, because this is out of hand. Pics of one of the victims can be viewed on my Facebook page! Saturday afternoon, no children were outside playing, as we are all SCARED! I pray that someone hears what is going on and decides that the Southside is worth investing in! Side note: I am moving because this is REALLY affecting my quality of life as well as the lives of my children. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WE NEED HELP!

WE ARE SEEING AN epidemic of tragic losses. In July, there has been a murder-suicide in Shellman; another suicide in Randolph County; a murder of the wife and son and suicide in Early County; in Clay County a murder-suicide; a suicide in Abbeville Ala.; a suicide in Leesburg; and now the tragic loss of Brandon Schiff. Several of these are related to financial issues. Our hearts go out to everyone affected.

I SURE WISH THEY offered curbside recycling in Albany or give a rate discount if you do recycle. I go once a week to our recycling center in East Albany at Thornton Community Center. You don’t even have to separate it. I also wish more people recycled.
DR. MARCIA HOOD GUEST-conducted our choir at Porterfield and she is really fun to work with. The Albany Chorale is in for a treat.

REGARDING THE CITY HR director’s dispute with City Manager Al Lott, it is ridiculous if all of this is true, and I tend to believe it is. It is way past time that Al Lott should step down and we need to remember this, too, when it is time to re-elect commissioners. Albany needs a thorough “house cleaning” in just about every are of government before this community is damaged beyond the point of no return. This USED to be a great town, it truly was “The Good Life City”, but now we are crime=ridden and full of wasteful, neglectful and sometimes outright deceitful politicians that care more for appearances than substance. We need people that will make Albany a better place to live and work once again.

THANK YOU, ALBANY JOURNAL for the truth.
THERE IS YET ANOTHER love triangle involving a ranking Albany Police Department detective, a married woman, and another man. The APD detective has been seen in the company of the married woman and had, until recently, even posted a photo of the two of them on his internet page as a “couple”. The married woman was previously involved with another man at the same time as well. And information here is that the APD detective and the other man have been involved in some type of non-physical altercations over this woman. While this case has not yet made the news, the fact that there is some information floating around within the community should cause some concern or raised eyebrows. Here are my questions: After all of the recent events over the past two years involving APD officers and love triangles or worse, why doesn’t the office of Internal Affairs or other department address these matters before they get so out of shape that Albany becomes a city and community of a laughing stock to the rest of the State and the U.S.? Isn’t there some portion of moral turpitude or ethical conduct that governs how these officers should adhere to conduct both on and off the job? And speaking on the matter of ethical conduct, at some point wasn’t APD’s own Internal Affairs investigators being investigated, why? Are we so short-sighted as to have forgotten all that we have been through since 2008 with the allegations of the improprieties of then Chief James Younger … ?

REGARDING THE CITY MANAGER reducing the mayor’s bodyguard/driver’s suspension from 30 to 5 days, thank God for friends in high places, huh?
HMMMM, I WONDER IF it has something to do with his part-time job. The chief is finding out his actions don’t mean anything if City Manager Alfred Lott and the mayor get together. If it had been most any other officer, they might have been fired for discarding public records.
