Be commissioners, not politicians

If the garbage tax actually becomes practice in Lee County it shall necessitate a new agency within the tax collection department. The complexity of compiling and billing for garbage fees has proven to be beyond the ability of our commissioners. So, now they want to forward that job to the tax collector.

That means that the burden shall be lifted from the current department which has failed to perform its duty. Question is: Will the commission abolish that portion of the department which failed? Will the commissioners establish and fund a replacement department within the tax collector’s domain? I believe the following to be true: There shall be a new agency within the tax department and we, the citizens, shall pay for the support of that new agency.

Government agencies seldom, if ever, close; therefore, the old agency within the Utilities Service Department shall still be there for us, the citizens, to support. The problem won’t go away and it won’t change form; it is simply being shifted around by the commissioners because they have no idea of how to deal with it. It’s the old politician ploy of “passing the buck”.

Commissioners, you have a tough one, here. Why don’t you flex some muscles and solve this problem instead of litigating it and passing the buck ? This is our money that you are frivolously squandering. We do not like what you are doing.
