Dianne Khris James Andrews, 59

Dianne Khris James Andrews, 59 of Fairbanks, Alaska died April 11, 2012 at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m. at Third Kiokee Baptist Church, Rev. Harold James officiating. Mrs. Andrews will be cremated following the service.

A native of Camilla, Georgia, Mrs. Andrews was born to the late Richard and Thelma Chapman James. She has lived in Alaska for the past 7 years and had lived most of her life in the Camilla-Albany Area where she was a member of the Third Kiokee Baptist Church. Mrs. Andrews was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to sing, sew, play bingo and she will always be remembered for her love for her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Thelonious Burden of Baltimore, Md.; Zkmain Moreno and her husband Luis of Wiesbaden, Germany; Charletta Desnoes and her husband Colin of Atlanta; and Larraquette Burden of Buford, Ga. Grandchildren: Kiera, Rico, Martin, Mycia, D’Nyse, Bryun, Dominique, Taelor, Raymond, D’Anne and Juliette. Brothers: Larry James of Sask., Canada and Rev. Harold James of Philadelphia, Pa.  Sisters: Gwendolyn Smith of Philadelphia, Pa.; HVive Denning of Fairbanks, Alaska; Kathy Shaw of National City, Calif.; Rhonda Hodges of N. Augusta, S.C.; and Pamela Dixon of Putney, Ga. and her beautiful step-brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 20 from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern.

Jeanne Pearce Wileen, 65

Jeanne Pearce Wileen, 65, of Albany, died Friday, April 13, 2012.

Her funeral service was held Tuesday, April 17 at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Wileen was taken to Alexandria, Va. for a service and burial in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Wileen was born in Morristown, N.J., the daughter of the late Franklin Kenneth Pearce and Gladys Trumpore Pearce, and she moved to Albany in 1955.  She attended schools in Albany and graduated from Albany High School in 1964.  Mrs Wileen graduated from Women’s College of Georgia (now Georgia College and State University) in Milledgeville, Ga.  She taught in the Dougherty County School System from 1968-1976.  Teaching and education remained very important to her demonstrated by her volunteering as a tutor with Whiz Kids at Avalon United Church.  She was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, the Albany Women’s Club, and the Daffodil Garden Club.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wileen was preceded in death by her husband, Captain Gordon Charles Wileen, USN (Ret.), and her brother, Franklin Pearce.

Mrs. Wileen is survived by her sister Peggy P. Svoboda, Albany; her nieces, Susan S. Simmons and her husband Kent, Albany, Stephanie S. Bradley, Greeley, Col.; great nieces and nephews, Emily Simmons, Abby Simmons, both of Albany, Stephen Bradley, Spencer Bradley, Sam Bradley, all of Greeley, Col.

Clara Agnes Siler Yater, 92

Clara Agnes Siler Yater, 92 former resident of Albany died April 15, 2012 Trinity Hospice in Augusta, Ga. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Crown Hill Cemetery. Rev. John Spencer officiated.

Mrs. Yater has lived in Augusta for the past 6 years and was a longtime resident of Albany where she was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church, very active with the DAR and the Albany Garden Club.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Collier and her husband Jackie of Martinez, Ga. and Deborah Betsill and her husband Carl of Middlesex, N.C., granddaughter, Amy Betsill of Zebulon, N.C., brother, Scott Siler of Homestead, Fla., sisters, Mary Scott of Winterhaven, Fla. and Mae Bronson of Glennville, Ga..

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Yater who died September 2, 2011.

Hilda McDonald Story, 81

Hilda McDonald Story, 81, of 1904 Palmyra Road in Albany died April 10, 2012 at Palmyra Nursing Home.

A private graveside service was held Saturday April 14, 2012 at Crown Hill Cemetery. Rev. William Collins officiated.

Born in Worth Co., GA to the late Elbert McDonald and Margie Statum McDonald, Mrs. Story has lived in Albany over 50 years.  She was of the Baptist faith and retired civil service from the Albany Marine Corp. Logistics Base.

Mrs. Story was preceded in death by her husband, Lum E. Story Sr., son, Lum E. Story Jr. and grandson, Kyle Galloway.

Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Galloway and her husband Bob of Leesburg, sons, Keith Story and his wife Pam of Findlay , Ohio and Martin Story and his wife Alesa of Atlanta, 6 grandchildren, Jacob Story, Mariel Story, Keith Story, April Weekley, Jason Story and Angel Harrington, 4 great grandchildren, Chandler Herrington, Kyler Weekley, Taylor and Samantha Harrington.

Larry R. Scarborough

Larry R. Scarborough died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Phoebe North. His memorial service will was held Monday at Kimbrell-Stern.

A native of Cleveland, Tenn., Mr. Scarborough had worked for Southern Ag as a truck driver and had served in the U. S. Marine Corps.  He was preceded in death by his parents Royce and Zelda Scarborough and his sister Laverne S. Gibbs.

Survivors include his wife Carrie Bedford Scarborough, Albany, brother in law Melvin Gibbs, Lee County, sisters in law Ruth Stoyle, Sylvester, Desiree Bane, and Hannah Bane both of Albany.

Walter Ray Mock, 63

Walter Ray Mock, 63, of Albany, died April 13, 2012 at Willson Hospice House.  Graveside funeral services were held Monday at Crown Hill Cemetery.  Rev. Joey Cannon officiated.

A native of Donalsonville, Ga., Mr. Mock had lived in Albany most of his life.  He was a graduate of Albany High School and Valdosta State College.  He served in The United States Air Force in the 6990th Security Squadron as a Korean linguist and was a Regional Supervisor with the Department of Family and Children Services for 30 years.  Mr. Mock was a member of Raleigh White Baptist Church and had attended Gillionville Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carole M. Mock of Decatur, Ga., a son, Quinton H. Mock and his wife, Jessica of Newnan, Ga., a daughter, Shannon J. Mock of Albany, a grandson, Lofton Mock of Newnan, Ga., his father, John L. Mock of Albany, a brother and his wife, Hiram and Janet Mock of Albany, and a sister and her husband, Darlene and Tim Wallace of Lee County, Ga..

Billie Jean Lamonte, 77

Billie Jean Lamonte, 77, of Albany died Sunday April 15, 2012 at Wynfield Park Nursing Home.

The funeral service was held Tuesday at Kimbrell-Stern with interment to follow at Floral Memory Gardens.  Dr. Greg Davis will be officiated.

Born in Thomaston, Ga., Mrs. Lamonte lived in Albany most of her life where she was a Homemaker.

Survivors include her husband John Lamonte of Albany; three children Jeffery Lamonte and his wife Denise of Pace, Fla.; Michelle Carpenter and her husband Gary of Seamore, Tenn.; Joel Lamonte and his wife Penny of Seamore, Tenn.; a sister Ethel Smith of Thomaston, Ga.; a brother Mack Daniels of Thomaston, Ga.; six grandchildren Mathew Lamonte, Johnathan Lamonte, Paige Krause, Casey Corns, Alex Lamonte and Shannan Kee; great-grandchildren Ariana Krause, Dylan Krause and Graier Corns.

Retha Luke Barnes, 89 

Retha Luke Barnes, 89, 466 Miller Road #B, Leesburg died Monday, April 9, 2012 at her residence.

Her funeral service will be Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors with entombment in Crown Hill Mausoleum.  Rev. Ray Lowe will officiate.  The family will receive friends Thursday 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern.

A native of Fitzgerald, Mrs. Barnes raised a large healthy family.  She spent a great portion of her life working in industries that served as the backbone of America.  From the Flint River Cotton Mill in Albany where she began working at the age of 17 to the shipyard in Brunswick where she served as a welder during World War II to Rockwell International and eventual factory owner Ayers Corporation where she served as an airplane fabrication until her retirement in 2000.

She was tireless and industrious woman throughout her life.  Pastimes included vacations to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charleston, S.C., listening to Conway Twitty, crocheting, and cooking meals for her family.  Mrs. Barnes was a member of Philema Road Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters Leila Mann, Leesburg, Patricia King (Ray), Leesburg, Martha Osborn (Raymond), Oklahoma City, Okla., Greta Pye, Charleston, S.C., Regina West (Tommy), Adel; sons Randolph Barnes (Mary Beth), Leesburg, Michael Barnes, Leesburg, Freddie Barnes (Jimmie), Lee County; brother, Fred Luke, Fitzgerald; sister in law, Hazel Luke, Fitzgerald; 28 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; 2 dogs, Angel and Prissy; 3 birds, Salty, Buddy and Pete.

Louise Prevatte Pait Ashton, 105

Louise Prevatte Pait Ashton of Albany died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the age of 105 at Morningside Assisted Living.  Her funeral service was held Tuesday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with a private interment in Crown Hill Cemetery.  The Rev. Dr. Don Adams officiated.

Mrs. Ashton was born in Seminole County on July 24, 1906 to Crawford James and Maggie Yates Prevatte.  She graduated from Hopeful High School, attended Abraham Baldwin College and graduated from Freeman Business College.  She moved to Albany in 1929 at the age of 23.  She married Myers E. Pait of Albany in 1930 and together they had three children.  In 1981, she married Byron F. Ashton and they had 12 wonderful years together.

A member of First United Methodist Church since coming to Albany, she was the oldest living member of the church at her death.  She taught Sunday school and belonged to the Sapp Class and Fellowship Class and to numerous church organizations

For 32 years, Mrs. Ashton was secretary of the M. W. Tift Grocery Company.  She later was appointed Registrar of the Dougherty County Voter Registration Office where she served for 10 years.  She was active in the community serving on the March of Dimes Board, the Easter Seal Society Board, Friends of Phoebe, the Phoebe Foundation and The Museum of Art where she was a frequent volunteer.  She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and was an avid artist and poet most of her life.

A devoted wife and mother she will be greatly missed by family and friends.  Survivors included three children, Anita Pait Bacon and her husband Jim, Myers Pait Jr. and Lacy Pait Lee and her husband Spencer; seven grandchildren, Berney Bacon Kirkland (Michael), Jim Bacon III (Gina), Lacy Bacon Meier (John), Mark Pait, Dayna Pait Anderson (Kelley), Walton Lee (Paige) and Paiton Lee; eleven great grandchildren, Michael Kirkland Andrew Kirkland, Jim Kirkland , Ryan Anderson,  Hayley Anderson, Curt Hall IV (Jade), Ashley Meier, Mariel Meier Nelson (Billy), Spencer Lee, Murphy Lee and Elizabeth Lee; close family friends Austin Rizzo, Carolyn Hamilton, and Tina Harden and special nieces Judy Landau and Jan Shirah.  She was preceded in death by her last sibling Mary Prevatte Wells of Vada, Ga. and her nephew the Rev. Charles A. Culbreth of Cairo, Ga.

The family wishes to thank the very devoted staff of Morningside for their care and help throughout the last 12 years.

Dr. William Don Bush, 81

Dr. William Don Bush, 81, of Albany, Ga., died April 3, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor officiated. Interment followed at Clayton Cemetery in Clayton, Ala., Rev. Bill Brown officiated.

A native of Clayton, Ala., born to the late Walter Clifton Bush and Mildred Virginia Trawick Bush, Dr. Bush had resided Blakely, Ga. before moving to Albany in 1972. He was a graduate of Clayton High School, and a 1954 graduate of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University).

Dr. Bush was the former owner of Bush Animal Clinic and practiced veterinary medicine in Blakely, Ga. and Albany for forty six years. He was a member and past president of the Veterinary Advisory Board, the State Board of Veterinary Medicine and helped to form the Academy of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Bush was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and was named Veterinarian of The Year by the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association in 2003.

Dr. Bush was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, the Dougherty County Kiwanis Club and served on the Board of Directors of The Anchorage. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Byrd Bush.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Bush of Albany, two sons, Walter Lamar Bush and his wife, Shay Evans Bush of Watkinsville, Ga. and William Don (Bill) Bush of Eufaula, Ala., a daughter, Paige Bush Foster and her husband, Chad of Madison, Ga., a brother, Neil Bush of Clayton, Ala. and four grandchildren, Jay Bush, Victoria Bush, Graham Foster and Mason Foster.

Elonzo Blocker, 85

Elonzo Blocker, 85, of Baconton, Ga. died April 4, 2012 at Phoebe Putney memorial Hospital. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, April 9 at Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery. Rev. Chris Tuner officiated.

A native of Donalsonville, Ga., Mr. Blocker had resided in Baconton since 1976 moving from Camilla, Ga. He was a retired building contractor and a member of Lighthouse Ministries. Mr. Blocker was a WWII Navy Veteran.

Survivors include his wife of sixty two years, Margaret Blocker of Baconton, Ga.; two sons and their wives, Dennen and Wanda Blocker of Baconton, Ga., Darren and Patricia Blocker of Stedman, N.C.; four daughters, Gloria Larkin and Cheryl Cross both of Baconton, Ga., Patricia Stewart and her husband Steve of Albany, GA and Janice Hall and her husband David of Baconton, Ga.; a brother, Nolan Blocker of Bainbridge, Ga.; twelve grandchildren and twenty nine great-grandchildren.

Nita Dale Peak Smith, 68

Nita Dale Peak Smith, 68, of Albany died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Palmyra Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Monday, April 9 at Faith Baptist Church. Rev. Jerry Deans and Rev. Paul Wilkes officiated. Interment followed in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Randolph County, Ga.

A native of Brunswick, Ga., Nita had resided in Albany since 1992 moving from Griffin, Ga. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and served in the children’s department where she taught first and second grade boys and girls in Sunday School/Awana and Vacation Bible School and was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Smith, her father, Harold Welton Peak and a brother, Paul Douglas Peak.

Survivors include her son, William Wayne Howard of Opp, Ala.; her mother, Joy Bethea Peak Glass of Albany; brother, Jimmy (Crystal) Peak of Sumner, Ga.; three sisters, Martha Peak Matthews of Ormond Beach, Fla., Kay Peak Shook of Albany,  and Gloria Jean (Buddie) Peak Norton of Centre, Ala.

Delano H. “Del” Larson M/Sgt. USAF (Ret’d) 79

Delano H. “Del” Larson M/Sgt. USAF (Ret’d) 79, of Leesburg died Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Willson Hospice House following a lengthy illness.

The Funeral service will be at 11am on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Sherwood Baptist Church Chapel. The Reverend Tom Pollock and Mr. Ross Powell will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens with military honors.

The Family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Monday, April 2, 2012 at Kimbrell-Stern.

A native of Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. Larson has lived in Dougherty and Lee Counties for the past 42 years. He served in the United States Air Force during Korea and Vietnam as a jet engine mechanic. He also retired from the US Postal Service with 20 yrs. service. Del was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, deer hunting and traveling. He also built and flew model airplanes and was a member of the Airmasters Model Airplane Club.

He was a wonderful Husband, Father and Poppa. He always put his family before himself. He will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 55 yrs., Kathleen Wiggins Larson, his daughter Carol Larson Stapleton and her husband Brian of Langhorne, Pa., his son Alan Dale Larson of Leesburg, 2 grandchildren, Cassandra Drakeley and her husband Paul of Chalfont, Pa. and Kyle Stapleton of Langhorne, Pa., and 4 great grandchildren Caroline, Lauren, Jack and James Drakeley.

Douglas Bernard Wills, 73

Douglas Bernard Wills, 73, of Albany died on Sunday March 25, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Services for Mr. Wills will be on Thursday March 29 at 1 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service beginning at 12 noon.

Mr. Wills was born April 12, 1938 in Newton, Ga. to the late Andrew Bernard and Helen Mae Vaughn Wills. He lived most all of his life in Albany and was retired from the Civil Service.

Mr. Wills is survived by a son Gary Douglas Wills of Warner Robbins, Ga., two sisters Joan White of Monticello, Ga. and Barbara Hutcheson of Williamson, Ga., two grandchildren Brandon Elerbee and Kelly Freis and her husband Casey and two great-grandchildren Tristan and Preston Freis. One niece Yvonne Crane of Monticello, Ga.,  and three nephews Mark Clanton of Newborn, Ga., Danny Ovaert of Dallas, Tex. and Ted Hutcheson of Alpharetta, Ga. also survive.

Melanie Wylene Brown, 26

Melanie W. Brown, 26, of 118 Joiner Drive, Leesburg, Ga., died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at her residence. Funeral services were held Saturday at Mathews Funeral Home. Pastor Tommy Powel l officiated. Interment services followed in Irwinville Cemetery.

A native of Fitzgerald, Ga., Miss Brown had resided in Leesburg, Ga. since 1990. She attended Lee County High School and was employed at Enmark on Highway 19 in Leesburg.
Survivors include her fiancé, Isaac Albritton of Leesburg, Ga., two sons, Jon Raymond Albritton and Ashton Lee Albritton both of Leesburg, Ga., her parents, Elizabeth and Raymond Brown of Valdosta, Ga., two sisters, Pam Boutwell and her husband, Steve of Hamilton, Ga., Amy Cartwright and her husband, Christopher of Albany and two nephews.

 

Elaine Croft

Elaine Croft of Leesburg, made her journey to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 22, 2012.

She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Carl Croft, a daughter, Michele Knight of Leesburg, Ga., and two granddaughters, Summer L. Stauffer of Savannah, and Mackenzy Knight of Leesburg, Ga.

Mrs. Croft was retired from K Mart and was a very active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albany.

Memorial services were held Saturday, March 24 at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Dr. Bill Coker and Rev. Tim Olds officiated.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations to Covenant Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

 

Marie Conn, 85

Marie Conn, 85, of Plains, Ga. formerly of Leesburg, Ga. died Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Wellstar Cobb Hospital and Medical Center, Austell, Ga. Graveside funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 25 at Leesburg Cemetery. Rev. Mike Wilson officiated.

A native of Christain, W.V., Mrs. Conn had resided in Plains, Ga. since 2007 moving from Leesburg, Ga.. She was a homemaker and a member of Leesburg Church of God. Mrs. Conn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Conn.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Marlin Short of Hickory, N.C., Cynthia and Terry Meers of Marietta, Ga.: three brothers, Howard Montgomery of Greensboro, N.C., Jackie Montgomery and Roger Montgomery both of Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren, Donald Short and wife, Jennifer, Robin Doyle, Tanna Bell and Husband, Clif and Cody Knowles; seven great-grandchildren.

Dorothy M. Lovett, 80, of 413 N. Broad St., Doerun, Ga. died March 19, 2012 at her residence.

Funeral services were held Thursday March 22 at The First Baptist Church of Doerun. Rev. David Benton officiated.  Interment will follow in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens in Moultrie, Ga.

A native of Pavo, Ga., Mrs. Lovett has lived in Doerun for 57 years where she was a member of The First Baptist Church of Doerun and the Homemakers Sunday School class. She worked for 40 years as a pharmacy tech. at the Apothecary Drug Store in Doerun.

Mrs. Lovett was preceded in death by her husband Ray Lovett and a son Charles Randall (Randy) Lovett.

Survivors include her daughters, Jeanie Latrelle Lovett Tomczak of Jacksonville, Fla., Brenda Lovett Comer of Marietta, Ga. and Judy Lovett Coleman of Albany, brothers, Audley Manning and his wife Sara of Quincy, Fla., and Randolph Manning and his wife Emma of Lockridge, W.Va., grandchildren, Kimberly Renee Jenkins, Wendy Coleman Wyatt and her husband Dave, Olivia Tomczak Sheridan and her husband Rex, William Brandon Coleman and Julie Rachel Comer, great-grandchildren, Phoenix Sheridan and Tyler Wyatt.

Raymond M. Hepner Sr., 69, of Albany died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Willson Hospice House.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.  Dr. Ronald R. Baxley will officiate.  Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors.

A native of Pensacola, Fla., Mr. Hepner had resided in Albany since 1973 moving from St. Petersburg, Fla. He graduated from Baylor Prep School in Chattanooga, Tenn. and the University of Alabama.  Mr. Hepner served eleven years in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran.  He was a Presbyterian by faith and was member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of The Elk # 713, American Legion, Post # 30 and was former member of Radium Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Hepner of Albany, three sons, George Hepner and his wife, Pamela of Lee Co., Ga., Monty Hepner and his wife, Leigh of Canton, Ga., Grady Hepner Sr. and his companion, Selena Jones of Albany, three daughters, DiDi Davis and her husband, Tommy of Carrollton, Va., Tami Chadwick of Sterling Va., and Dawn Williams and her husband, Christopher of Columbus, Ga., a sister, Barbara Patton and her husband, Bob of Opelika Ala., eleven grandchildren, John Davis, Beni Davis, Miki Davis, Richard Hepner, Anthony Hepner, III, Grady, Hepner, II, Brendan Hepner, Geoffrey Hepner, Austin Montgomery Hepner, Matthew Chadwick, Lauren Chadwick, six great-grandchildren, Skylar Davis, Madison Davis, Ally Hepner, Lakelynn Hepner, Matthew Kennedy, Rylee Hepner and several nieces and nephews.

Carl August Hamburger

Carl August Hamburger of Albany died March 17, 2012. A private funeral will be conducted March 20, by the Reverend Dr. James Bullion.

Mr. Hamburger was born in Wiesbaden, Germany July 4, 1922. He immigrated to the United States in 1938. He joined the U.S. Army on July 4, 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Cavalry during the war and as an interpreter in Rosenheim, Germany.

After separation from the service, he attended the University of Georgia. He received a B.A., an MBA and an LLD at the University. He moved to Albany in 1952 and was involved in several businesses during his active years.

He is survived by his wife Rosemary R. Hamburger, a sister Frances Bunzl of Atlanta, nieces Suzy Wilner and Tricia Bunzl, a great niece Anna Wilner, children Suzy S. Bolton of Midlothian, Va. and Larry Styles and his wife Jane of Earlysville, Va., Michelle Wetherbee of Clarkesville, Ga., Putney Wetherbee and his wife Margaret of Jacksonville, Fla., grandchildren Robin Pickett and husband Bryan of Athens, Ala., Bill Bolton and wife Angela of Leesburg, Va. and 7 great grandchildren.

Mr. Hamburger was preceded in death by his parents Arthur A. Hamburger and Anna Kahn Hamburger, his first wife Lucille C. Hamburger and his nephew Richard Bunzl.

The family will receive visitors from 5-7 on Tuesday afternoon at the family residence. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Willson Hospice House, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or The Albany Museum of Art.

Frances Feagin, 86

Frances Feagin, 86, of Americus, a resident of Magnolia Manor, formerly of Albany, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Phoebe Sumter Hospital.

Miss Feagin, daughter of the late Jerre Willis Feagin Sr., and Frances Whiteside Feagin was born January 27, 1926 in Bibb County.  She taught at Albany High School for many years.  Miss Feagin was a graduate of Mercer University with an A.B. and M.Ed. degrees, and a 6 year degree from the University of Georgia.  She was a long-time member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church in Albany, and a member of First United Methodist Church in Americus.

Survivors include her sister, Jean Feagin Johnson of Rome, Ga.; a brother, the Rev. Jerre W. Feagin Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y.; nephews, Rick Johnson, David Johnson, Jonathan Feagin; a niece, Jennifer Powell.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Martha McDonald Moore Memorial Chapel at Magnolia Manor in Americus with Chaplain Joy Wilson officiating.  Miss Feagin’s remains will be buried Saturday morning at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon, Ga.

Gerald Kimsey Sr. 56

Gerald Kimsey Sr. 56, of Blackberry Road in Baconton, Ga. died March 15, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern Rev. Keith Gaines officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Born in Albany, Mr. Kimsey has lived most of his life in the Baconton area where he was of the Baptist faith, owner of W&G Trucking Repair and Gerald Kimsey Hauling. Mr. Kimsey will always be remembered for the love he gave to his family, grandkids and his work.

Mr. Kimsey was preceded in death by his father, Otis Lee Kimsey Sr., and a sister, Polly Broome.

Johnny Wade White, 60

Johnny Wade White, 60, of Cumming, Georgia, died after a long battle with cancer on March 15, 2012 at the Cumming Northside Hospital.

Mr. White was born in Albany, Georgia on October 3, 1951 to James (Pee Wee) White and Mary Gail Archer White. He was a 1969 graduate of Albany High School and 1971 graduate of Albany Junior College where he served as student vice-president.

After moving to Cumming, Georgia in 1989, he became the founder and owner of Main Source Germany, Inc. and PartSouth, Inc. in Cumming, Georgia.

He is survived by his children, Lesley White Kunz, Michael Ryan White, and Meredith White Buice, and sons-in-law John Kunz and Adam Buice, all of Cumming; his mother, Mary Gail White, and sister Patsy Faye Menix, both of Albany; his grandchildren, Gracey Buice, Fischer and Brynlee Kunz, all of Cumming; and dear friend Michelle Davis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pee Wee White, and his beloved
grandmother, Alma White.

Arrangements are with Kimbrell Stern Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 at Beacon Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia with a memorial service immediately following at 3 p.m. Interment will be at Floral Memory Gardens in Albany.

 

Penny Leigh Wells, 56

Penny Leigh Wells, 56, of Albany died on Tuesday March 13, 2012 at her residence. A graveside funeral service for Ms. Wells will be held on Friday March 16, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery with Bill Pawley giving the eulogy.

Ms. Wells was born in Albany to the late George Leonard and Lois Mooty Pawley on February 18, 1956. She was retired from Hertz Car Rental and was a graduate of Albany High School.

She is survived by a son Chris Gimenez of Savannah, two brothers Bill Pawley and his wife Brenda of Leesburg, Ga., George Pawley and his wife Nancy also of Leesburg, Ga., and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as a sister Diana Mayo.

Anderson Lewis Hyman, 83

Anderson Lewis Hyman, 83, of Mitchell County, Ga. died March 15, 2012 at Mitchell Convalescent Center in Camilla, Ga.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. David Aumsbaugh will officiate.  Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.

A native of Worth County, Ga., he was born to the late Horace Daniel Hyman and Mary Coston Hyman.  Mr. Hyman’s mother died when he was a small child and he was raised by his step-mother, the late Mattie Lou Hyman.  Mr. Hyman lived in Lee County, Ga. before moving to Albany over fifty years ago.  He was of the Pentecostal faith.

Mr. Hyman was a strong and gentle man and loved his family.  He made a living doing what he loved to do.  Completely self-taught, he was a master mechanic who spent the great majority of his life working on vehicles.  Mr. Hyman was employed with Beck Motor Company for many years before opening Hyman Truck Repair in 1988.  He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a wonderful grandfather and a friend to all who knew him.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Sylvia and Donald Ford of Cleveland, Tenn., Deborah and John Wilson of  Sasser, Ga. and Mary and David Aumsbaugh of Albany, five grandchildren, Courtney Ford of Cleveland, Tenn., Daniel Buckner of Athens, Ga., Sarah Buckner of Moultrie, Ga., Andy Aumsbaugh of Bronwood, Ga. and Zach Aumsbaugh of Albany, four great-grandchildren, Jayden Buckner, Brinston Buckner, Laylin Aumsbaugh and Aubree Aumsbaugh and a number of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Helen Hyman, a grandson, Josh Aumsbaugh and four sisters, Ruby Carswell Whitfield, Nannie Breeden, Nellie Hautala and Mae Palmer.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. before the funeral at Mathews Funeral Home.

Roy Landis Pippin Sr. 72

Roy Landis Pippin Sr. 72, of Albany died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral service will be held Thursday 2 p.m. at Sherwood Baptist Church.  Rev. Michael Catt and Mr. Ross Powell will be officiating.  A private burial will be held earlier Thursday morning.

Born in Tallahassee, Fla., Mr. Pippin owned and operated Walker Heating and Cooling Inc.  He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and had served as Chairman of the Deacons.  Mr. Pippin joined Gideons International in Valdosta in 1964 and was ordained as a Deacon at Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta in 1965.

He was preceded in death by a brother James Pippin and his parents Lloyd and Follis Pippin

Survivors include his wife Betty Jo Pippin of Albany; a son R. Landis Pippin Jr. of Albany; two daughters Pamela Pollock and her husband Kevin of Lee County; Angela Hastings and her husband Joe of Albany; two grandchildren Josh Pollock and Amanda Pollock; two great-grandchildren Jordan Heath and Hunter Letlow; three sisters Dorothy Showalter and her husband Bob, Frances Cleland and her husband Willard, and Doris Hurst and her husband Vernon; a sister in law Carolyn Pippin; two brothers in law J.L. White and his wife Fran and Rodney White and his wife Nancy.

Joseph Henry Mathis, 81, of Albany died Monday, March 12, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran LCMS. Rev. Earl Steffens will officiate. Interment will follow at Andersonville Nat’l Cemetery with full military honors.

A native of Mayo, Fla., Mr. Mathis had resided in Albany for the past forty two years. He was retired from the Army and later owned and operated Joe’s Appliance and Refrigeration Service. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 30 and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Heathcote Mathis, Albany, four daughters, Teresa Lopez, Oklahoma City, Okla., Patti Jarrett and her husband Jimmy, Albany, Lisa Gann and her husband Richard, Albany, and Melodie Freeman and her husband Tim, Daviston, Ala., five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family is at the residence of Patti and Jimmy Jarrett, 114 Eight Mile Rd., Albany, Ga.

James B. (Jim) Hanna, 59, of Albany, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at Willson Hospice House.  A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 13 at 10 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.  Rev. Bill Behrend will officiate.

A native of Hemingway, S.C., born to the late Lloyd and Della Marie Hudson Hanna, Jim had lived in Albany since 1980, moving from Tallahassee, Fla.  He was employed with Miller Brewing Company and Merck Chemical Company. Jim received his Masters degree from Florida State University.

He is survived by his companion, Susan M. Hill of Albany.
