ALBANY – The Darton State College Lady Cavs beat Alabama Southern Community College 81-50, Friday, at home.
Despite a 10-day break from competition, Darton looked just as eager as ever on the court. The Lady Cavs moved the ball with speed and urgency, and showed off a powerful defense that out-rebounded Alabama Southern 52-35.
“I liked our efforts,” Darton head women’s basketball coach Lea Henry said. “We ran the floor early on and looked very focused on defense.”
Local standout DaQueena Moore lead the Darton defense with nine rebounds. The 6’1” post player is ranked No. 2 in the GCAA conference with 158 total rebounds in 18 games. Her efforts, combined with those of sophomore forwards Iesha Bonner and Kadaysha Jones put a quick end to Alabama Southern’s counter-attacking offense. Bonner had eight rebounds, one block and a steal while Jones rebounded seven and grabbed three steals.
Guard Shanae Armbrister scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Darton offense. She continues to stay at the top of the GCAA conference by averaging 20.2 points per game.
Sophomore Jasmine Wilson also looked strong as she scored 15 and had five assists.
“We’re focusing more on pushing the ball and getting easier shots,” Henry said. I like how hard we’re playing too.”
