LEESBURG: Lee County High School’s Theatre Arts Program will hold auditions for Mel Brook’s newest Broadway musical, Young Frankenstein on Dec. 8 and 9 at the high school. The production’s cast will include both adults from the community and students from the high school.

The auditions will include singing and speaking; some of those auditioning might be asked to dance. The show will feature all the favorite wacky characters from Brook’s original 1974 comedy-classic film—Dr. Victor von Frankenstein, his fiancée Elizabeth, Frau Blucher, Igor, Inspector Kemp, and, of course, The Monster. These roles were made famous by Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, Kenneth Mars, and Peter Boyle, respectively. And, of course, the Irving Berlin classic “Puttin’ on the Ritz” is heard in the show, but it is joined by new favorites written by Mel Brooks himself, songs such as “He Vas My Boyfriend,” “The Brain,” and “The Transylvania Mania.”

There will be three opportunities to audition: Sunday, December 8 at 2:30; Monday, December 9 at 3:30 p.m.; and Monday, December 9 at 6:30 p.m. The auditions will be held at Lee County High School’s Clay Auditorium. No prepared audition material is required. Additional information is available at theatrelchs@lee.k12.ga.us or 229-903-2297.
