COCHRAN – The Lady Cavaliers beat Middle Georgia State College 73-53 in college hoops, Wednesday, in Cochran.
Darton’s Shanae Armbrister, a freshman guard from Bahamas, led the charge with 21 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Kadaysha Jones netted 18 points and rebounded six as well.
“Bookie (Jones) was a key player,” Darton State College basketball coach Lea Henry said. “She just played steady; she was tough on both ends of the court.”
But the Lady Cavs looked good all-around as they clinched their sixth straight win. Center DaQuenna Moore grabbed 12 rebounds and scored 8 points, and Cedricka Sweeting scored three of four 3-point attempts and gave 10 assists.
“Cedricka had a really nice game,” Henry said. “She handled pressure well and really made some big plays in the second half.”
Leading by seven at the start of the second half, Darton hit the floor and ran up a 17-point lead. Middle Georgia, however, fueled by a stadium full of fans, came within three points of Darton with 11 minutes remaining.
But Darton stayed composed and made another sweeping run, this time scoring 25 points to Middle’s 8 to win the game.
The win improved Darton to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Lady Cavs are currently ranked No. 4 in the GCAA.
