Future educators at Albany State University are preparing for the crucial transition from college to the classroom and they will not do it alone.

A group of ASU students with career aspirations in education were officially inducted into the teaching profession Friday, Dec. 13 at the Educator Preparation Program’s annual “PENning” ceremony in the Academic Building Auditorium located on campus.

The Professional Embracing the Novice (PEN) ceremony is designed to welcome beginning teachers into the teaching field by providing vital mentoring support from retired and veteran educators.

PENning ceremony inductees are undergraduate students from the College of Education who have completed his or her initial certification program in teacher education. The induction program is held each fall and spring semester. The novice teachers are encouraged to contact their “PENning” mentor any time during his or her professional career to seek guidance, advice, or simply support.

For more information about the ceremony, please contact Erica Stone in the ASU College of Education at (229) 430-4716.
