Lady Rams drub Florida Tech in season opener

FORT VALLEY, GA- Freshman forward Artisha Holston made her Albany State debut with game-highs of 24 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lady Rams to a 70-51 win over Florida Tech in the 2013 SIAC-Sunshine State Classic. It was the season opener for both teams.

Albany State opened the game with a lot of aggression. With Holston scoring the first six points for the team, the Lady Rams showed their muscle inside by utilizing a huge rebounding advantage. That advantage helped propel ASU to a 36-21 lead in the half and a 38-28 edge at intermission.

In the second half, Albany State continued to lead by double digits until Florida Tech connected on a three-pointer to cut its deficit to 48-42 with 10:22 remaining in the game. However, ASU ended the game on a 23-9 run with timely baskets and free throws to diminish FIT’s comeback chances.

Senior guard Kourtney Alexander recorded 19 points and eight rebounds. Amber McKenzie added another 10 points. Forwards Nicole Wilson and Kedeemya Cooper each had eight rebounds and point guard Mecca Frost dished out seven assists.
