GAINESVILLE – Darton sophomore JD Rousseau continued to lead the Cavaliers as he won the 400 IM and set a new Darton-record mile at the Third Annual Brenau University Invitational, Saturday. The Cavaliers finished 3rd out of ten teams, while the Lady Cavs struggled some and finished 11th of 12.
“It was a good meet for us, not great,” said Darton head swimming coach Will Breehl. “We are about halfway through the season now. We have made a lot of progress, but we need to refocus and get back to work.”
Aside from setting a new school record, Rousseau’s 16:23.31 mile was fast enough to win 2nd place overall. His 4:12.34 400 individual medley took top honors, and the sophomore also finished 3rd overall in the 500 freestyle.
Gabe Downey also performed well, taking 2nd in the 100 backstroke and 3rd in the 200 IM. Stone Peterson earned respect and finished 5th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.49.
Sandra Guerrero led the Lady Cavs and finished 10th in the women’s mile race with a 18:50.3 swim. She finished 13th in both the 200 butterfly and the 500 free.
Teammate Ashley Delgado finished 14th in the 200 freestyle.
