Albany State University will honor one of southwest Georgia’s most beloved community leaders, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists at the 4th Annual Community Service Award Banquet. Jane Seddon Willson, President of Sunnyland Farms, Inc. is this year’s honoree. The event takes place at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14 in the Student Center Ballroom located on the campus.
Willson is an active member in Dougherty County having served on almost every major public and private sector board including the Albany Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Southwest Georgia, the Albany Museum of Art, and the Albany-Dougherty Inner City Authority.
Her life is devoted to improving the quality of life for community residents. Voted Albany’s Woman of the Year in 1983, the former president of the Boys and Girls Club of Albany currently serves on the organization’s board of directors and was the first woman to serve on Bellsouth Telecommunications’ board of directors.
“Mrs. Willson is an angel who has been a blessing to many,” said ASU Vice President of Institutional Advancement Clifford Porter Jr. “She is one of the greatest supporters of education today. Her contributions to this community are too numerous to name and her impact will forever be felt across the state.”
The president of Sunnyland Farms founded the company in 1948 with her late husband, William Harry Willson. It specializes in marketing a large selection of pecans, fruits, homemade cakes and candies.
