There’s pageantry, a parade, purposeful partying, pomp and food aplenty at Albany State’s 2013 Homecoming, and a football game. When the tailgating, vending, step show and brunches conclude, there’s one more activity to do before organizers wrap. The Ruby Faye Butler Memorial ROTC 5K Run will close out the week of activities. The run begins at 8:30 a.m., Sunday, October 20 at the Student Center Amphitheater located on the campus.

Damon Jerald Butler, a financial investment advisor in Atlanta is sponsoring the scholarship in honor of his mother, Ruby Faye Butler.

“My mother taught me that it is not so much about you, but what you give back,” said Butler. “She instilled character and great values in her children and the ROTC scholarship is a noble way to honor her memory,” he added.

Ruby Faye Butler was employed with the U. S. Department of Navy in the healthcare field for 26 years. Much of her time was spent mentoring service men and women.

The scholarship will benefit students who are members of the Military Science Department by providing assistance as they prepare to become Army officers.

The registration fee is $20. Participants will receive a T-shirt and are invited to a brunch in the Student Center immediately following the run.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Sunday in the ASU Amphitheater. Register at: https://www.facebook.com/events/231952373627363/
