ATLANTA, GEORGIA- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced its women’s basketball Preseason All-Conference Team and Predicted Order of Finish for the 2013-2014 season, as voted by its SIAC Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The Albany State University Lady Rams were predicted to finish fourth in the East Division. In addition, junior Kedeemya Cooper and senior Kourtney Alexander were named to the preseason all-conference team.
During the 2012-2013 season, the Lady Rams finished with a 9-15 record and were fifth in the East Division. ASU lost to Benedict College in the second round of the 2013 SIAC Tournament.
Cooper, a 5’9 forward from Thomasville, Georgia, averaged 10 points and nine rebounds last season. She was named to the 2013 SIAC All-Conference Team and won the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award.
Alexander, a 5’8 guard from Hinesville, Georgia, averaged 8.5 points and 3.1 rebounds. She shot .348 percent from the three-point line and made .778 percent from the free throw line.
Defending 2013 SIAC champion Clark Atlanta University was the unanimous favorite to win the SIAC East Division and overall championship. Conference tournament runner-up and reigning East Division champion Benedict was picked to finish second. Following Benedict will is Fort Valley State University, ASU and Paine College. Claflin University was predicted to finish last.
Tuskegee University was selected to defend its West Division title for the second consecutive year. Stillman College was picked as the division’s runner-up, while Kentucky State University was picked to finish third. Those three teams are followed by Miles College, LeMoyne-Owen and Lane College.
