Chehaw is pleased to announce the 5th annual Josh Franklin Memorial Disc Golf Tournament this weekend, Oct. 26 and 27 at the Joshua W. Franklin Memorial Disc Golf Course. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday with a Player’s Meeting at 8:30 a.m. First Round tees off Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Although player registration for the event is closed, visitors are encouraged to come out and watch the action.
Two rounds of 18 holes each will last all day Saturday with a lunch break. A third round begins Sunday, with Playoffs and an Awards Ceremony following. A $3 entry fee for adults and $2 for children will be required at the main gate per person.
Organizers are especially excited this year, because the tournament has maxed out at 72 players from all over both Georgia and Florida. “We are also pleased to announce that we have 16 professional disc golf players playing in our tournament,” says organizer Stuart Franklin. “Some of these pros are the very best in the sport.” Two of these players, John McCray and Garrett Gurthrie are ranked top ten in the world.
Traditional golf and disc golf share the same structure and thrills. The main difference is the equipment. Instead of clubs and balls, disc golfers throw specifically designed golf discs to handle any obstacle a course may present. Players try to complete the course in as few throws as possible.
The Joshua W, Franklin Disc Gold Course is located in the heart of Chehaw. The course runs throughout its 800 acres of pristine conservation land. The tournament is an event for the whole family with access to the wild animal park, one of the largest play parks in southwest Georgia, a BMX track, mountain bike and nature trails.
Divisions range from Professional to Junior levels. RV and primitive campsites are available. For more information, visit www.chehaw.org. Chehaw is located at 105 Chehaw Park Rd. in Albany, Georgia.
