ALBANY – Friday kicks off what is going to be a Region 17 Championship tournament to remember as five of the eight Region tournament qualifiers have top-ten national rankings, according to an announcement from the NJCAA today.
The Darton State Lady Cavaliers improved from No. 5 to No. 4 in the poll, while rival Georgia Perimeter College held steady at No. 7. It’s very likely that these two powerhouse teams will square up in the championship final at 1 p.m., Saturday. Both teams are 13-1 in Region play, their only losses coming from each other after their previous two meetings this season.
The men’s tournament will be unbelievably competitive. While the Cavaliers improved to No. 5 after two weeks at No. 7, Eastern Florida State moved up to No. 4, and Georgia Perimeter College leapt to No. 6.
Darton (13-2-1) enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed, and will likely kick off with 4th-seeded Eastern Florida (10-1-1) in the men’s semi final at 6 p.m., Saturday. Georgia Perimeter, seeded 2nd, will likely have to surpass a scrappy Georgia Military team to get into the final game with either Darton or Eastern Florida, Sunday.
Also, while the athletic facilities at the Albany campus offer excellent spectator views, all games will be webcast live. Links and schedules are available at http://cavs.darton.edu.
