ALBANY – Darton State College head women’s soccer coach Ken Veilands tied the Region 17 record for most career wins, Tuesday, but in a most unusual way – a forfeit by a conference rival.

The Andrew College Lady Tigers brought only seven players onto the Darton game field for Tuesday’s conference matchup. Fifteen minutes into the game, one of the Lady Tigers went down, and Andrew College chose to forfeit the match due to not having enough athletes on the field.

The score was already 5-0. Darton freshmen Shanese Bowen and Briana Lemerise each scored two goals. Forward Eleana Colvin also scored.

The win was Veilands’ 224th and tied a Region 17 record for most career wins set by former Young Harris College women’s head soccer coach Kathy Brown.

The Lady Cavaliers will have an opportunity to break that record Saturday at Polk State in Lakeland, Fla.
Darton, ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA, is now 9-1 overall and 5-1 in GCAA play.
