Jeff DeMott, Albany Area YMCA Aquatics Director and Head Coach of the Y-Rapids/Quad-A Swimming team, was recently nominated for the 2013 Georgia Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year by Georgia Swimming. This is DeMott’s first nomination.
DeMott was nominated for placing two swimmers in the top 20 in the USA – Nicole Fye for the 1500 meter freestyle, the 200 butterfly, and the 200 yard butterfly; and Reese Fye in the 1500 meter freestyle.
DeMott has been coaching since 1984 and has served as Aquatics Director of the Y since December 2011. He is a four-time member of the Georgia Zone Team coaching staff, including 2012 when Georgia defeated the Florida Zone team for the Zone title in Dallas, Texas. The Y-Rapids swim team has been named 14 & under state swimming champions three times – Long Course 2012, Short Course 2013, and Long Course 2013, and was runner up in the 2013 Senior State Championships.
Georgia Swimming is a division of USA Swimming. Their mission is to provide a program designed to encourage Georgia athletes to pursue opportunities available through competitive swimming and to educate organizations of the benefits of Georgia Swimming. The 2013 Coach of the Year will be announced later this month.
