ALBANY – The Darton State College Lady Cavaliers shut out South Georgia State 4-0, Wednesday, in Darton’s first conference matchup of 2013.
Sophomore transfer Hong Tran earned her second shutout with the Lady Cavs while freshmen Lyana Perez and Shanese Bowen gave the Tigers more than they could handle, scoring 2 goals each.

Defenders Kristy Gash and Chevelle Lopez each managed an assist. Forward Brianna Lemerise gave two assists.

Head coach Ken Veilands, while pleased with the score, saw some good and bad moments from the sideline. “At times we looked unbelievable,” he said. “At times we looked like we didn’t know how to play soccer. “But that’s typical of developing players.”

The win improves Darton to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in GCAA play. The Lady Cavaliers have scored 14 goals in three games and have allowed only one goal against.

The Lady Cavaliers are still nationally ranked 8th, as new polls won’t be released until Tuesday. They’ll host Broward College, Friday, in what should be one of their toughest games. “Broward’s going to be a monster for us,” Veilands said. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Lady Cavalier forward Shanese Bowen keeps her eyes on target as she scores her second goal against South Georgia State College, Thursday. Darton won, 4-0.
