ALBANY – The Cavaliers dominated Thomas University Reserve in a 6-0 shutout Wednesday and leapt two spots in the latest NJCAA poll to return among the nation’s top five soccer programs.
Darton managed two goals in the first half of the match despite a strong showing by the Thomas goalkeeper. The Cavalier attack peppered Thomas’ goal, striking all three posts and forcing a multitude of saves before midfielder John Labrador opened up the scoring in the second half.
In addition to his goal, Labrador, a freshman from Orlando, Fla., also gave two assists. Sophomore captain Jorge Chirinos and freshman Matt Avrolla each had a goal and an assist. Marwan Azimi, Darwin Espinal and Alejandro Garcia also scored.
Darton’s Adam Cahill recorded his third shutout of the season. The win improves the Cavaliers record to 6-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference play.
The latest NJCAA poll, released Wednesday, moved Darton up to No. 4 from a previous No. 6 ranking.
The Cavaliers will travel to USC Salkahatchie in Allendale, S.C., for a 4 p.m. matchup, Saturday.
