Local pitmasters wheel out the grill this Saturday
Special to the Journal
ALBANY, Ga., August 14, 2013 – As the heat of summer intensifies and summer barbecue sizzles on the grill, Sam’s Club is inviting members and guests to sample mouth-watering barbecue from local competitive barbecuing team The Rolling Grill. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, members and guests can taste championship-worthy barbecue at the Albany Sam’s Club at 1201 N. Westover Blvd.
The Rolling Grill is a three-time competitor with the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). Eric Thomas, the lead pitmaster for The Rolling Grill, is also a competitor on the Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour. The Rolling Grill was a season five competitor on “BBQ Pitmasters” and has been named a Grand Champion.
“We do the best barbecue right here in Georgia and we’re going to prove it on Saturday,” said Club Manager Cliff Townsend. “The incredible smells and the great tastes will be free, as Sam’s Club and KCBS have come together to give everyone a taste of true championship-level barbecue.”
Sam’s Club has served as the official supplier of the Kansas City Barbeque Society, the world’s largest barbecue sanctioning body, since 2010. The Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour, now in its third year, brings together barbecue enthusiasts in 25 local events and five regional finals, culminating in the National Championship at the headquarters of Sam’s Club in Bentonville, Ark. The total prize purse for the competition, sanctioned and judged by KCBS, is $500,000.
“Its superior meats and other ingredients make Sam’s Club the perfect fit to enhance and support the sport of competitive barbecue across the nation,” said KCBS Executive Director Carolyn Wells. “Sam’s Club has been an incredible addition to our barbecue family.”
