Also “Gabby” awards for: “Best Sportscaster”, “Best Sportscast”, and for “Best Sports Series”, “Murray”.

Albany television station WALB received four awards from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters Friday night in Atlanta. All four awards were 1st place “Gabbys”.

WALB has been named: “Community Service Station of the Year” for the 9th consecutive year. WALB did not win the state’s top award this year, but has been named: Georgia’s “Station of the Year”, 6 of the last 8 years.
All three sports awards were presented to former Sports Director: Robert Hydrick, who now serves as WALB’s News Managing Editor

WALB competed against all Georgia stations, outside Atlanta, (Atlanta competes in its own large market category).
Other Georgia markets include: Augusta, Columbus, Macon, Savannah, and Thomasville.

WALB Vice President & General Manager Jim Wilcox commented, “We’re very pleased that our staff was recognized by other broadcasters for our work in serving the community. WALB is in the smallest television market in the state, so these awards reflect our level of commitment to our viewers. My personal thanks to each of our dedicated employees.”

The Georgia Association of Broadcasters recognizes excellence in broadcasting statewide with its annual “GABBY” Awards banquet. The 2013 winners were announced during a televised awards ceremony from the studios of Georgia Public Television in Atlanta, June 7th.
