ATLANTA – A Fantasy 5 win in Sumter County has sparked loads of excitement for one self-employed welder. Gary Latham of Leslie matched all five numbers from the May 29 Fantasy 5 drawing, winning the massive $565,620 jackpot prize.

Latham, 62, discovered his windfall following the drawing.

“I almost had a heart attack,” Latham recalled upon viewing the matching results. “I can’t believe it. It still hasn’t sunk in yet.”

The lucky lottery winner has a wife, one child and four grandchildren.

“First I plan on giving money to charity and paying the bills,” Latham said.

Winning numbers from the May 29 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 1-8-11-28-30.

Discount Tobacco #0005, 999 Southerfield Road in Americus, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
