Michelena D’Ambrosio Swanson

Michelena D’Ambrosio Swanson died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Phoebe Putney Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be held Thursday, June 6th, 2013 at 10:00AM at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church with interment to follow at Andersonville National Cemetery at 12:00 Noon. A rosary will be held Wednesday, June 5th 2013 at 6:00 PM with visitation to follow until 7:30 PM. Rev. Finbarr Stanton will officiate.

Michelena D’Ambrosio Swanson was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 16, 1927 to Michael and Aussunta Giantisco D’Ambrosio. She was the 5th child of 8. After graduating from Roosevelt High School she went on to work at The Record and Gimbel Brothers in Philadelphia before meeting and falling in love with Jack Amund Swanson. The two married on November 22, 1951. Their only child, Nancy, was born in Camp Lejuene, NC in 1955. Nancy married Larry Michael Carter, who Michelena loved as her own son. She had three grandchildren that she loved very dearly; Lauren Michelle, 22, Jacquelynn Alexis, 19 and Larry Michael Jr., 17. She travelled with her husband to many cities like, Indianapolis, IN, Albany,GA, Philadelphia, PA, Somerdale, NJ and then back to Albany. In her later years, Mickey worked as a sales lady at Thelma’s Bridal Saloon in Lee Co. She wore many hats in her life, as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a mentor and a best friend. Michelena will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her.;

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Carter (Larry Michael) of Minnestoa, two sisters, Mary Bernardini of Philadelphia, PA, Caroline D’Amico (Frank) and a brother, Michael D’Ambrosio all of New Jersey, three grandchildren, Lauren Michelle, Jacquelynn Alexis and Larry Michael, Jr. all of Minnesota.

Memorials may be made to St. Clare’s Community Center, 2005 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Albany, GA 31701.
