Special to the Journal
On June 8, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Chehaw will join hundreds of aquariums, zoos, museums, and conservation organizations across the world in fun, inspirational and educational events to celebrate World Oceans Day. This day provides the opportunity to focus special attention on our world’s shared oceans, which are vital to life yet too often overlooked and taken for granted. World Oceans Day raises awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives and the increasingly critical need for each of us to help conserve its resources.
Chehaw will have hands-on ocean themed activities available for everyone to enjoy. Books A Million and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will both be in attendance with ocean themed books and educational booths. The Gulf Specimen Marine Lab will be bringing the ocean to Chehaw with its educational traveling exhibit, The Sea Mobile. Visitors will be able to gently handle safe marine life in the Sea Mobile’s touch tanks. The touch tanks help people of all ages to overcome their fears and learn about the diversity of life in the ocean.
