ATLANTA – A Valdosta man has won a sweeping jackpot prize playing Fantasy 5. William Gilbert, 71, matched all five numbers from the May 16 Fantasy 5 drawing, winning the 484,201 jackpot prize.

Barretts, 6685 Bemiss Road in Valdosta, sold the Quik Pik ticket.

“I thought the computer was wrong, but there it was,” Gilbert exclaimed. “I called my friend up. I couldn’t believe it.”

Winning feels like a dream, according to the lucky winner. He intends to halve his windfall with his friend.

“I want to pay off bills and help my two adult children,” the retired carpenter shared.

Winning numbers from the May 16 drawing were: 1-11-19-22-32.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
