The Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County Foundation made four scholarship presentations on Monday, May 13, to local outstanding high-school students.
The awards were made to applicants based on academic excellence and school and community service performance.
Brianna Necole Washington of Albany High School was the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship presented by the Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County Foundation on May 13. In addition to excelling academically, she has also played on the girls’ softball and basketball squads.
Lindy Kay Leitner of Southwest Georgia Home School Association was awarded the second Larry Price Scholarship of $1,000. Lindy has served as her association’s Key Club president and secretary and plans to attend Darton College. She is considering a major in English.
Holly Elizabeth Daniell earned the Greg Neff Scholarship, a $2,000 award established by Mr. Neff’s widow. Holly is graduating with honors from Deerfield-Windsor School, where she received the Key Club Scholarship, the President’s Education Award, and a Performing Arts Award, and will attend the University of Georgia, where she plans to seek a degree in elementary education because “I love working with kids.”
Laine Suzanne Ellington from Lee County High School received the second $1,000 Bob Fowler Scholarship, established in memory of the longtime Kiwanian and local football coach. Laine was president of the LCHS Beta Club and received the Georgia Certificate of Merit and DAR Good Citizen Award in addition to other academic and extracurricular honors.
