ALBANY, Ga - Riliani Familia did all he could to give Darton State College Cavaliers a boost, but it wasn’t enough to get past Georgia Perimeter College, as Darton State College Cavaliers lost 5-4 at home, Tuesday.

Darton was led by a flawless day at the dish by Familia, who went 4-4 against Georgia Perimeter College’s pitching. He singled in the second, fourth, seventh, and ninth innings.

Nikolay Uherek recorded the win for Georgia Perimeter College. He allowed one run over five innings. Uherek struck out two, walked none and gave up four hits.

Georgia Perimeter College was sparked by Russel Melton and Trumon Jefferson, who teamed up for six hits and two RBIs.

Jaguar closer Tripp Sheppard put away the final four outs to record the save.

The lead stayed with Georgia Perimeter College after the third, when it scored three runs on a two-run double by Matt Taylor and an RBI single by Pierce Ressmeyer.

One run in the bottom of the fourth helped the Cavaliers close its deficit to 3-1. A steal of home by Davis Knapp sparked a rally, but Uherek induced an inning-ending fly out from Casey James.

A one-run seventh inning helped bring Darton State within three, thanks to a groundout by Tripp Calhoun that triggered Darton State College Cavaliers’ comeback. Sheppard ended the inning by getting Nate Ferrell to ground out.

Two runs in the bottom of the ninth helped Darton State close its deficit to 5-4. With the bases loaded, a two-run single by Calhoun gave Darton some life. However, with the tying run on third, Georgia Perimeter College’s Landon Hayes induced a Rashad Billups ground out to close things out.

Darton will play at Georgia Perimeter at 6 p.m., Friday, and again Saturday in a doubleheader at 1 p.m., to close the regular season.

The Cavaliers are now 36-12 overall and 21-8 in conference play.
