Bill moves from committee to full Senate

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., former chairman and former ranking member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, voted to move the Agriculture Reform, Food, and Jobs Act of 2013 out of committee. The bill passed by a vote of 15-5.

Every five years, Congress passes a legislative package, commonly called the “farm bill,” that sets national agriculture, nutrition, conservation and forestry policy.

“I am pleased to support this year’s farm bill, which strikes a balance that last year’s Senate version did not. This will be my fourth and final farm bill as a member of Congress, and during my time on this committee I have always been a strong supporter of Georgia’s agriculture,” Chambliss said. “Not only does this bill save $23 billion over 10 years, but it resolves regional disputes in order to reach our common goal of getting a farm bill across the finish line.”
