The Albany State Golden Rams baseball team fell to the Tuskegee Tigers in the first round of the 2013 SIAC Tournament by the score of 9-5. With the loss, ASU, who entered the tournament as the SIAC Eastern Division Champions, falls into the loser’s bracket of the double elimination tournament. Albany State’s record dropped to 17-27.
The Golden Rams proved to be up for the task in the early going against fourth-seeded Tuskegee. ASU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the seond inning before the Tigers scored two runs of their own to tie the score. Albany State regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth that ended with them leading 4-2. Tuskegee cut their deficit to one when they added a run in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 4-3.
The seventh and ninth innings proved to be costly for the Golden Rams. Coupled with two errors, ASU gave up three runs apiece in both innings while only scoring one more run. They could not score in the bottom of the ninth to keep the game going.
Allen Hardy collected two hits and an RBI to lead Albany State. Dexter Moody scored two runs and also recorded a hit. Pitcher Donte Williams took the mound loss for the team.
The Golden Rams will look to bounce back in the loser’s bracket today when they take on the Kentucky State Thorobreds. The first pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.
