Special to the Journal
Run through the beautiful South Georgia pines during the 2nd annual Chehaw Cheetah Chase on Saturday, April 20. The Cheetah Chase, sponsored by South Georgia Cycling, features both a four and eight mile trail run, as well as a one mile kids’ fun run. The Cheetah Chase is unique as the only true trail run in Albany.
The race was created by South Georgia Cycling. The cyclers hold the Fat 4 bike race at Chehaw each fall, but wanted another way for athletes to utilize the beautiful trails. Thus, the Cheetah Chase was born. Last year’s race rose over $2,500 and the group was able to present Chehaw with a $500 check.
A cash prize will be given to the top males and females of the Cheetah Chase. Handmade clay medals will be awarded to the winners of each category as well as all children under the age of 14. Children (and adults!) are encouraged to embrace the theme and wear their favorite animal costume. The one mile fun-run will begin at 8 a.m. and the four and eight mile run will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Online registration is available at www.Active.com until 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. Pre-registration prices are $20 for the 4 mile, $25 for the 8 mile, and $10 for the 1 mile fun run. Packet pickup and registration will be available at Breakaway Cycles from 3– 6 p.m. April 19. Race day registration is 7-8 a.m. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
