Spring and Renewal

By   /   March 17, 2013  /   Comments

This is one of my favorite times of the year. Flowers are blooming wherever I look. The weather is warming but the chill of the morning air is still present. Things are starting to look greener. Days are getting longer. All in all life is beginning to resurrect from the dark days of winter.

However my goal is not to sentimentalize spring, to wring it of any worth it truly has so I can fill some page with senseless dribble. My goal is to make you aware if you are not yet aware that there is beauty that surrounds you. Put your computer down, leave your phone on the table, go outside and take a look for yourself. The bugs are not out yet you will not even have to spray yourself. Go outside and take a look at this creation. It is truly remarkable. Not only because the weather is perfect, and the sky is amazing, and the trees are flowering, but also because it is a part of a cycle that keeps on going.

There is truly a time for everything. We say that, but many do not believe it anymore. People are told these days they always need to be happy. That is not true of course, there is no real way to be happy without knowing pain and pain will come to us all. There is a time for winter, for freezes, for the cycle of death. However now we are in this cycle of life beginning, and it is beautiful, and I am telling you that you need to take a moment and experience it.

Why? Because there is something else that is amazing. The way your eyes work in order that you can take in all the sights. I know that science has been able to explain the way that photons from light interacting with the workings of your inner eyes that send chemical and electrical signals to your brain all work in some strange alchemy to allow us to see it, but that it is explainable does not make it any less of a miracle to me. You can feel the cool breeze flow around you, playing with your hair, letting you become a part of it all. You can smell the beginnings of spring as gifts that come on the wind. You can hear the symphony of birds and insects greet this cycle with their choruses of glory. Go outside and taste and see that the Lord is good.

That is what happens when you experience it all. You are participating in it, allowing the miracle that you are to be a part of the whole thing, and in that way being what God always intended you to be. In the simple way of enjoying this day you are glorifying the God who created this day.

We live in cynical times. Many people devote large portions of their time to things that do not really matter. We have been taught to judge our worth in this world by how much we do. However, do use some cliché, we are not human doings we are human beings. It is good simply to be, to exist in whatever moment we are given and be a part of that moment, to witness to the miracle while being of the miracle.

But many people stay inside. They get angry because somebody said something they do not like. They get lonely because television is a bad companion. They lose out…

I am sorry I have to go. My children just woke up from their naps. My son just asked if he can go play outside with our puppy. Soon it will be too hot for him to go outside. Next year he may think he is too old to play with the puppy. My daughter is grabbing at my pants inviting me to join them. I have to go. They will not be this age ever again. This is the only time I will get the chance to see them like this. They are miraculous and I am going to go miraculous with them. I hope to see you out there.
