MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Cavaliers were in seventh place as they entered the second round of the Titan Winter Invitational, today, were looking “pretty strong” as they made the turn in the second round, Darton Head Golf Coach Bill Jones said.

Nick Green

Nick Green led the Cavaliers this morning, shooting a 72 to lead the team scoring of 305. NJCAA rivals Central Alabama and tournament hosts Brevard College shot 302 and 301, respectively. NAIA college Embry-Riddle lead the tournament, posting a 294 in the first round at the challenging Suntree Country Club.

“We’re seeing some progress,” said Jones, whose Cavs didn’t play as well as expected in the fall. “We’re still struggling in places, but there’s a lot of good play all around by everybody.”

Taylor Martin bogeyed his last five holes to finish the first round with 77 strokes. Everyone else on Darton’s team – Madison Turner, Robert Robertson, Parks Brown and individual Taylor Vaughn – shot a 78.

Still, Darton’s 305 start was only four strokes away from finishing the first round in 3rd place.

“Things are hopefully looking up,” Jones said.
