A loss looked likely for Darton State College Cavaliers when they trailed by one run in the ninth inning, but Darton State College was able to capture the lead back with an infield single and an error in the ninth inning, spurring Darton State to an 11-10 win over Southern Union CC at Wadley, Al., on Tuesday.

With the score tied at nine in the ninth inning, Kody Adams beat out an infield single with the bases loaded and two outs, bringing home Davis Knapp. A wild throw allowed two more Cavalier runs to cross.

Cody Wofford was hot at the plate for the Cavaliers. Wofford went 3-6, drove in one and scored two runs. Kody Adams finished 3-6 with 3 RBI, 2 runs and a homerun. Nate Ferrell blasted a two-run homerun in the seventh.

Darton State staved off Southern Union CC as the Bison were unable to match the Cavaliers down the stretch.

Southern Union CC scored one run in the ninth on a fielder’s choice. Despite its efforts, Southern Union CC couldn’t finish the comeback. With runners on first and third base and one out, a failed safety squeeze attempt turned into a 2-5-2-5-8 double rundown, doubleplay. The bizarre ending was fitting for the game that saw the Cavaliers rally back from a 7-1 deficit.

Andrew Crumbley got the win in relief for Darton State College Cavaliers. Crumbley pitched one inning and allowed no runs.

Darton State College Cavaliers’ Kody Adams, Nate Ferrell, Wofford and Casey James combined for 10 hits and seven RBIs.

The bottom of the first saw Southern Union CC take an early lead, 4-0. Southern Union CC got things going when Randy Loew singled. Chris Daniel singled, scoring Matthew Haskins. Southern Union CC pushed more runs across when Loew scored on a wild pitch, Daniel scored on a wild pitch, and Hunter scored on an RBI single by Cameron Sanders.

Southern Union CC pushed across one run in both the second inning and the ninth. In the second, Southern Union CC scored on an RBI double by Haskins, bringing home Adam Ballew.

It didn’t take long for Southern Union CC to answer as it scored two runs of its own in the seventh. Southern Union CC scored on an RBI single by Sanders and an RBI single by Lawson Stewart.
