ALBANY – The Darton State College Cavaliers will host a quad swim meet, the Darton Sprints, Saturday, at 1 p.m., in the natatorium.
A “sprint” style meet has no long distance events, so spectators can expect some fast-paced action as they watch some of the NJCAA’s best talent compete.
Darton sophomore TJ Bland is one of the best 100 breaststroke athletes in the NJCAA. Teammates Dennis Jariga and Gabe Downey are among the top 8 in backstroke competitions, and Kyle Batson ranks in the top 10 for the butterfly. Darton’s relay teams are among the NJCAA’s top three.
“We’re all coming off of winter training, which in the swim world is the toughest training we do,” said head Darton men’s swim coach Will Breehl. “But we’re still going hard. And last time we swam with these schools, we won all but one event.”
Region foe South Georgia College, LaGrange College and Thomas University are scheduled to enter the meet, which will be free and open to the public to attend.
The Lady Cavaliers swim team will travel to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Saturday.
