Atlanta, Ga. – Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) is preparing for several busy weeks issuing driver’s licensing and ID cards after the upcoming holiday break. DDS centers will be closed for multiple days in a row due to the timing of this year’s state holiday closings. That coupled with an increase in replacement cards and those moving into the state add challenges for the Agency’s customer service goals.
“History has proven that when DDS centers are closed for a holiday, demand grows and our wait times increase,” said Commissioner Rob Mikell. “Please take advantage of these tips for better service,” he added.
- All driver’s licensing customer service centers will be closed Saturday, December 22, 2012 and will reopen on Wednesday, December 26, 2012.
- The first business day following a closed day is typically a very busy day, so please plan not to visit on those days unless you have time to wait.
- DDS is always closed on Monday each week statewide making Tuesday the busiest day to visit.
- A lost or stolen license or ID can be replaced online at www.dds.ga.gov as long as you are not up for a renewal within 150 days.
- Bring a copy of the police report to a customer service center in person to have your driver’s license number changed as state law requires if you are a victim of theft or fraud.
- There are several transactions that can be done online, so please check for these services before coming in.
- Homeland Security requirements are mandatory for everyone that must come in person and customers can create their own personal document checklist at www.dds.ga.gov to ensure that you bring all the necessary documentation.
- Don’t wait until the last minute to renew! A license or ID Card can be renewed 150 days before expiration.
- Keep your address current with DDS, and you will receive an important renewal reminder in the mail.
- An address change may be initiated online at www.dds.ga.gov as long as you have changed your address with the U.S. Postal Service within the past 30 days.
