Special to the Journal
The Southwest Georgia Project, Inc. (SWGAP) is pleased to partner with the East Albany Boys & Girls Club for a trip to Lewis Farms in Pretoria, GA. The children will learn about farm life, take a hay ride through the cow pasture, and bottle feed some calves. Additionally, SWGAP has partnered with the Boys & Girls Club for a hands on demonstration about healthy eating and entrepreneurship by helping the Boys & Girls Club start their very own garden! Paula Rogers, the Community Foods Coordinator with SWGAP says, “Some of the kids have never seen a tractor before. We wanted them to be able to see the full experience of cultivating the land.” SWGAP agreed continue to help with the garden and do workshops on entrepreneurship. This farm visit is another avenue to expose children to farming, healthy eating and supporting local farmers.
