ALBANY – The Darton State College Lady Cavaliers defeated West Georgia Tech 74-44 at home today in the opening game of the 2012 season.
Sophomore Michelle Mitchell scored 15 points and had seven rebounds to lead a new Cavalier team that includes nine freshmen and only three returning sophomores.
Tamarah Fisher, a 5’11” freshman from Tallahassee, Fla., came off the Lady Cavs’ bench to score nine points grab five rebounds and prove that the new Darton team has plenty of depth.
Although the Lady Cavs scored 37 points each half, they looked stronger and more cohesive in the second.
“We just kicked it up and played a little more aggressively on defense, and we worked harder for opportunities” Darton head women’s basketball coach Lea Henry said. “That helped us relax and play better.”
Darton is scheduled to play again in the Cavalier Arena at 2 p.m., Saturday, against Southern Union.
