On Wednesday, November 7, 2012, Georgia Commissioner of Veterans Affairs Pete Wheeler, leaders of the local veteran organizations and auxiliaries, and representatives of participating agencies will meet with Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard for the signing of a proclamation designating December 5, 2012, as “Supermarket of Veterans Benefits Day,” in Albany. The ceremony will start at 11 a.m. and take place in Room 100 of the Government Center located at 222 Pine Street.

The 47th “Supermarket of Veterans Benefits” will be held Wednesday, December 5th at the Albany Civic Center, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by the Georgia Department of Veterans Service and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The “Supermarket of Veterans Benefits” brings together representatives from federal, state, and local agencies involved with providing benefits to veterans and their dependents. It provides veterans and their dependents with the opportunity to gather information and get assistance in all areas relating to benefits at one time in one location.

The Georgia Department of Veterans Service originated these one-day programs in 1966. Since then, programs have been held annually at various locations throughout the state. This will be the sixth time Albany has hosted the Supermarket; the last being in 2003.

The mayor’s proclamation signing ceremony is open to the public.
