CAMILLA, GA – On Sunday, October 28, 2012, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) joined Charles Stripling President of Flint River Auditorium Alliance and members of the Flint River Auditorium Alliance at the grand reopening of the historic Flint River Auditorium in Camilla, GA.
“Charles Stripling and the Flint River Auditorium Alliance have spent many years working to renovate this historic facility into a beautiful performance arts center,” said Congressman Bishop. “Today is truly a blessing for the greater Camilla area and southwest Georgia will now be more enriched by their efforts.”
The building was previously Mitchell County High School and has been used as a school, meeting area, and community center for over 50 years. The facility has been repurposed to support the arts and music events sponsored by Camilla area organizations. The renovation project was funded through a combination of private contributions, donations, City Council support, and federal funds. Congressman Bishop assisted in acquiring $97,000 of appropriated funds for the renovations.
