In recognition of “Meet the Blind Month,” The Southwest Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Georgia is having a Zumba® party fund raiser. The Zumba® Dance Party is scheduled for Saturday, October 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Albany Area YMCA, 1701 Gillionville Road, Albany. The public is invited to attend.
Registration for the event begins at 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $10 per person. Participants can enjoy two hours of Zumba®, healthy and refreshing snacks, door prizes and fun. The purpose of the event is to promote awareness and educate our community about diabetes. Blindness, kidney failure and amputations are the leading complications of diabetes in the United States. A healthy diet along with exercise can reduce the risk of such complications. The Zumba® Party is an event for Zumba® instructors, adults and children living with diabetes, blindness or amputation, as well as their caregivers, family members and friends.
The purpose of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is two-fold—to help blind persons achieve self-confidence and self-respect, and to act as a vehicle for collective self-expression by the blind. NFB provides public education about blindness, information and referral services, scholarships, literature and publications about blindness, aids and appliances and other adaptive equipment for the blind, advocacy services and protection of civil rights, development and evaluation of technology, and support for blind persons and their families. Members of the NFB strive to educate the public that the blind are normal individuals who can compete on terms of equality.
