(VALDOSTA) – After finishing fifth for the Cavaliers in an inter-squad tournament last week, Darton State College freshman Parks Brown turned it on today and led the Cavs into the final group at the Thomas University Invitational at Kinderlou Forest in Valdosta.

Parks shot an even 72 of Darton’s total 298 strokes to give the team a third-place position after the first tournament round.
“He played steady all day,” said Darton head golf coach Bill Jones. “He had a couple of bogies, but birdied three of his last five holes.”
TaeHyung Kim, Taylor Martin and Nick Green shot 74, 75 and 77, respectively, to finish three strokes behind 2nd-place Southern Weslyn.
USC Beaufort leads with 285 strokes after their No. 1 man shot an astonishing 65.
“We didn’t play as well as I would have liked,” Jones said. “But we’re in the mix. We’re in the hunt. I definitely saw some improvements. We were more consistent from top to bottom.”
The Cavs are scheduled to tee off 9:30 tomorrow for the second round.
