(DOUGLAS) – The undefeated Cavaliers shutout South Georgia College, Tuesday, 5-0, in Douglas.
Facing a deep rivalry, heat and a fired up South Georgia team, sophomore Andrew Palumbo slid a through ball to freshman Jorge Chirinos whose goal would be the only one scored in the first half of play. Darton led at halftime, 1-0.
“The other team came out really hyped, really pumped up,” Darton head men’s soccer coach Bart Sasnett said. “We had to get settled in early.”
The South Georgia team and their fans provided a tough environment for Darton as the second half began, but the No. 1 ranked Cavaliers seemed to feed off of their intensity and answered with a bombardment of goals.
“We silenced the crowd in the second half after we popped some goals in,” Sasnett said.
Chirinos again found the net, as did teammate Troy Tucker. Alejandro Garcia, a freshman from Coral Springs, Fla., scored two Cavalier goals as well. Jacob Iten, Soren Yuhaschek, Tucker and Palumbo earned an assist each.
The Cavaliers are now 11-0 overall and 6-0 in the GCAA conference. They’ll face Georgia Perimeter College at 2 p.m., Saturday, at home.
