Albany State Lady Rams basketball teams set to tip-off 2012-13 season in November

It’s basketball time and the Albany State University Lady Rams are set to tipoff their 2012-13 season! Head coach Robert Skinner and the Lady Rams have unveiled their schedule and are set to face tough conference and non-conference competition as they compete for the SIAC championship title.

Head coach Robert Skinner, who tips off his 23rd season at the helm of the Lady Rams program, said with the amount of talent on Lady Rams’ roster, the team is ready to jump start the season and play for the SIAC title. Skinner will depend on returning guard April Thomas, who averaged 18.1 points per game last season, to lead the Lady Rams, who finished last season at 11-17 overall.

“We have a lot of talent on this year’s team. We are looking for our returning players to lead the way and our newcomers to make a big impact on the team,” Skinner said. “They are hungry for a winning season and the chance to play in the big game. The potential is there to have a really good season.”
The Lady Rams will tipoff their season on Nov. 20 in the first of five back-to-back non-conference road games. The team will travel to Valdosta, Ga. to take on the Valdosta State University Lady Blazers on Nov. 20 in non-conference action.

Participation in the Peach Belt/SIAC Challenge on Nov. 24-25 is one of many highlights of the ASU non-conference basketball schedule. The Lady Rams will play the Columbus State University Lady Cougars on the opening day, and face the Georgia Southwestern State University Lady Hurricanes in day two action of the annual challenge, which is hosted this season by Fort Valley State University.

After stops at Columbus State on Dec. 5 and Florida Tech on Dec. 8, the Lady Rams wll make their home debut on Dec. 13 against the Shorter University Lady Hawks at 6 p.m. at ASU’s HPER Gymnasium. Albany State will play Valdosta State on Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. at home.

The Lady Rams will open the new year on the road in SIAC action against the Kentucky State University Thorobrettes on Jan. 3, before hosting two-back-to-back home games. The Lady Rams will face the Tuskegee University Tigerettes on Jan. 7 and the Stillman College Lady Tigers on Jan. 10. HPER Gymnasium will be the site of four more home games during the month of January, including the Lane College Lady Dragons on Jan 17, the Paine College Lady Lions on Jan. 21, the Claflin University Lady Panthers on Jan. 26 and the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers on Jan. 31.

The 11th Annual Peach Ball Classic/Basketball Homecoming game, slated for Feb. 2, will pit the Lady Rams against defending SIAC champions and conference rival, Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats. The game will tipoff at 6 p.m. at HPER Gymnasium. The Lady Rams will close their home schedule as they host the Benedict College Lady Tigers on Feb. 7. Albany State will end regular season play on the road at Fort Valley State on Feb. 23.

The Lady Rams will compete for a conference championship title during the SIAC Tournament, starting Feb. 26 through March 2, at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga.
