Albany State football player receives SIAC player of week honors

An Albany State University Golden Ram has been selected for player of the week honors by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) after his outstanding performance in ASU’s Homecoming game against Clark Atlanta University on Oct. 20.ASU kicker Dillan Fontaine was named Special Teams Player of the Week after leading the Golden Rams to a 36-9 victory over the Panthers.

The freshman from Deltona, Fla. kicked three field goals and was 1-for-1 on PATs to lead the Golden Rams in scoring with 10 points. Fontaine kicked a 38-yarder in second quarter to score ASU’s first three points, and 30-yard and 39-yard field goals in the 4th quarter. Fontaine also recorded 279 yards on seven kicks, an average of 39.9 yards per kick.

Senior running back Nathan Hoyte, junior linebacker Marcavius Dudley and sophomore offensive lineman Victor Moli received honorable mention recogitions for their performances against the Panthers. Hoyte rushed for 82 yards on 20 carries and scored a touchdown for the Rams. He averaged 4.1 yards per rush, with a long rush of 12 yards. He also caught two receptions. Dudley led the ASU “Dirty Blue” defense with nine tackles (four solo), including two tackles for losses, and a sack in ASU’s victory. Moli was a key anchor of the ASU offensive line that helped produce 299 total offensive yards, including 160 passing yards, on 65 total plays.

The SIAC Offensive Player of the Week was Miles College running back Devonta Parker-Johnson,who rushed 193-yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown in Miles’ 38-20 victory over Lane College. The Defensive Player of the Week award went to Morehouse College linebacker Brandon Houston. Floyd Graves of Miles was named SIAC Newcomer of the Week after he rushed for 145 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns against Lane. The Offensive Lineman of the Week was Miles guard Monterio Taylor who helped Miles gain 496 yards of total offense.

Fontaine and the Golden Rams will be in action against the Benedict College Tigers on Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Augusta City Classic in Agusuta, Ga. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Lucy Laney High School.
