Leesburg, GA): On Wednesday, September 19, 2012, Lee County Commission candidate Tim Nelson took the time to learn about how a few different County departments operate and fund themselves. He began at the Leesburg branch of the library where he met with Lee County Library Director Claire Leavy. During his visit to the library, Mr. Nelson got a tour of the Leesburg library, learned about library funding and discussed staffing and budget. The library staff was very courteous and helpful, and the even checked their records and discovered that his library card had expired. He also learned about the Library’s social media outlets.
Mr. Nelson then attended the ribbon cutting of the new Spray-Glo on US 19 South where he met with the new business owners, members of the Lee and Dougherty Chamber and had a good conversation with Lee County Chamber of Commerce Director Winston Oxford.
Following the ribbon cutting Mr. Nelson then headed north to the Lee County jail where he met with Sheriff Reggie Rachals. The discussion covered staffing and budget as well as facilities and equipment. The Sheriff shared facts and numbers and showed a willingness to work with commissioners at times outside of budget meetings. Mr. Nelson commented, “It was great to see how the different departments work, and talk with them about their budgets and funding.” He continued, “Both departments seemed very willing to work cooperatively to solve the issues of the County, and both welcomed more frequent and open communication.”
