ATHENS, Ga. — Weather played a major role in the latter portion of No.7 Georgia’s (1-0, 0-0 SEC) practice on Tuesday. Threatening skies gave way to a torrential downpour about 90 minutes in to the scheduled two-and-a-half-hour session. Approximately 10 minutes later, a loud clap of thunder forced the Bulldogs to complete the workout inside in their multi-purpose FieldTurf facility.
“It started out pretty good, but then the rain came hard and we had a lightning strike so we had to finish inside,” head coach Mark Richt said. “We made the best of it.”
Richt talked at length about this week’s matchup with Missouri (1-0, 0-0 SEC), the Tigers’ first-ever Southeastern Conference contest, during the Bulldogs’ weekly press conference earlier on Tuesday.
“It’s an exciting week because it’s the first SEC game of the year,” Richt said. “I know everybody is excited about that. We are definitely looking forward to getting conference play under way. We’re taking a road trip to a new place, and that’s something to look forward to as well.
“We have a lot of respect for what is going on at Missouri,” Richt continued. “Coach (Gary) Pinkel has done a tremendous job with that program. When you turn the film on, you see excellence. That’s what I saw when I looked at the TV copy and the coaches copy, guys playing extremely hard and fast, very well coached and very well coordinated. Their defense created points and turnovers and a lot of opportunities for their offense and their special teams were outstanding. I saw an excellent team.”
Kickoff for Saturday’s game will be 7:45 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised live on ESPN2.
Tickets next Saturday’s game against Florida Atlantic in Athens are on sale to the general public and can be purchased online here or by calling the UGA Athletic Association ticket office at 1-877-542-1231.
