Dragon*Con Day 2: The Search for more Awesome

So what did day 2 bring for me?  Well, it brought a whole new level of awesome, that’s what.  The morning started with a parade.  Who doesn’t love a parade?  You don’t?  Well, what if that parade featured superheroes, bounty hunters, and even some Tetris pieces marching down the street.

For me, the highlight of the parade was seeing Stan Lee.  For those who don’t know, Stan Lee is responsible for such comic book characters as the X-Men, Spiderman, and the Fantastic Four.  You may know all of these from the movies they inspired.

Also in the parade was Dean Cain.  Cain was the star of the hit show Lois and Clark, which told the story of Superman.  It’s been off the air for a while, but Cain still has quite a following.

Dragon*Con has something for all ages, with My Little Ponies making their appearance.

Also marching in the parade was the 501st Legion.  Not ringing any bells?  I’m not surprised.  They exist primarily in the world of the con.  The 501stLegion describes itself as “Vader’s Own”. That’s Darth Vader to the rest of us.

That’s right boys and girl, a pile of imperial stormtroopers marching down Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta.  It was a sight to behold, let me tell you.

Saturday also marked the day I got to walk through the “Walk of Fame”.  This is where the stars go to sign autographs.  My first stop?  To shake hands with Lou Ferrigno.  If you don’t remember who that is, I’m sure you remember the big, green guy in the 70’s Hulk television show?  That, my friends, was Lou Ferrigno.  For the record, he’s a heck of a nice guy.

Additional celebrities I got to see was John Rhys-Davies (Gimli in Lord of the Rings and Salah in the Indian Jones films) and Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica.  Also present was Adam Baldwin. Baldwin was the star of the television show Firefly.  He also starred in the hit NBC show Chuck.  For fans of war movies, you may know him for his role of Animal Mother in Stanley Kubrick’s Vietnam film, Full Metal Jacket.

Later on, I ended up in a Warehouse 13 panel.  The show is a hit on the SyFy network.  It’s a fantastic show, and the panel featured three of the stars of the show: Eddie McClintoc, Aaron Ashmore, and Saul Rubinek.  For fans of the show, let me tell you this one fact.  You are watching McClintoc, Ashmore and Rubinek on the show each Monday night.  They are an absolute blast.

By now, some of you wish you were here at Dragon*Con.  I can certainly understand that sentiment.  You probably should check it out if that’s what you’re into.  This event is the ultimate fan event, with tons to do and see, and loads of celebrities who come here for fun.  While some may prefer some of the other conventions, panelists are here because they love it.  The fact that so many come back year after year is proof of just that, as opposed to some other cons where the celebs are contractually obligated to be at.

After a dinner with a friend, I look forward to what tomorrow will bring.  If the last two days are any indication, it’s going to be a great day!
