The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference is an annual event during which members from throughout the country gather to compete in events and to hear new and important information for their state organizations. This year’s conference was held July 7-12 in Orlando with eight Westover Comprehensive High School students participating. Othellious Cato earned a gold medal in Illustrated Talk while Joshua Dunson, Antonique Cowart, Tiffani Terry, Timothy Barkley, and Kaneisha Pontoon placed third in the Knowledge Bowl competition. Kensley Field served as assistant room consultant. The students also had an opportunity to hear several speakers including John Hope Bryant, a member of President Obama’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability.
Lorraine Montague, FCCLA advisor, coached the team and served as Assistant Lead Consultant in a competitive event.
