The Smithville Recreation Club in Smithville, Georgia is making preparations for their two big fall events that we hold every October. Our first fall event is the “Miss Smithville Blue Jean Pageant” which will be held on Saturday, October 20th 2011.
This is a preliminary to the “Chicken Pie Festival” on Saturday October 27th, 2012. We Expect this to be our biggest and best yet.
On October 20th at 2:00PM things get started with the beauty pageant. Conestent’s ages go from 0 to 18 with a number of age divisions starting at Baby Miss Smithville Blue Jean all the way to Miss Smithville Blue Jean. This pageant is designed for the girls to have fun and be natural. The winner of each division will ride in the Chicken Pie Festival Parade the next weekend, on October 27,2012.
The Chicken Pie Festival starts at 7:00AM with a 5K and 10.2K sanctioned runs, and a 1mile fun run. At 10:00AM our parade gets underway, being led by the “Festival Chicken”. The Smithville Recreation Club will start selling chicken pie plates at 11:00AM and also at that time will have the judging of the chicken pie contest. Prizes will be awarded
later in the day for pie contest winners, with first prize of $100.There will be lots of entertainment all day, and many arts and craft booths for everyone to enjoy. There will be lots of things for the kids too. Also there will be several Humane Societies there with animals for adoption.
The money that is raised from the festival is used for community projects, such as helping with the July 4th fireworks, Downtown Santa at Christmas and a community wide Easter Egg hunt. All of these include all of the community not just Smithville.
