Second Harvest of South Georgia is the largest hunger relief organization in South Georgia and provides nearly 14 million pounds of food to more than 700 local charities each year. A job like that has a tendency to require a lot. Yesterday, that job got a bit easier with a donation from Save-A-Lot.
Save-A-Lot, one of the nation’s leading hard-discount, limited-assortment grocery chains, is hitting the road to help educate people about how they can eat healthy and affordably as the summer road trip season winds down and the new school year gets underway. The Fuel Your Family Road Trip features two brand ambassadors—Road Scholars—making stops in 18 cities during a 2,000-mile journey between July 27 and Aug. 25. Along the way, they will present donations to area charities, host customer appreciation events, and hand out Save-A-Lot gift cards and other items at community events. The trip kicked off in Florida on Friday, July 27. The Road Scholars made their eighth stop in Albany on Tuesday.
The Road Scholars, ambassadors of the Save-A-Lot Fuel Your Family Road Trip, will deliver a $1,000 donation from Save-A-Lot to the Second Harvest of South Georgia food bank during the a customer appreciation event at the Save-A-Lot store in Albany on Tuesday, Aug. 7. The donation will provide 8,000 meals for area families.
In addition to the food bank donation, the Road Scholars offered product samples and giveaways to customers who stop by the store.
