(ALBANY) – The Darton State College Lady Cavaliers fell 1-0 to South Georgia College on Wednesday in a disappointing season opener.
South Georgia’s Tiffany Morris beat Darton goalie Tori Danchak in the 58th minute to shut out the Lady Cavs. It was the first loss the Darton team has ever suffered to SGC in the program’s 12-year history.
Darton saw some scoring opportunities but couldn’t execute, with the best coming from a breakaway led by Alexis Landers who put the ball just wide of an open goal.
“I’m disappointed,” Darton head women’s coach Ken Veilands said. “They’re not ready. I realize we weren’t prepared and that falls back on me.”
The Lady Cavs will not travel to Mississippi Gulf Coast this weekend as previously scheduled due to Hurricane Isaac’s landfall. They’ll face Georgia Military College in Milledgeville on Wednesday.
